Protecting Peat Bogs
In 2008 we were approached by Natural England who had a problem with damage and erosion to areas of historical peat bogs in the Pennines. Immediately we knew we had the perfect solution. Grass protection mesh would settle into the ground surface creating a firm, hard-wearing support for walkers, farm equipment, and 4 x 4 off-road recreational vehicles whilst still allowing the grass and moorland flowers to grow through.
The mesh provides long-term stabilisation of the ground where it is installed and also helps to protect surrounding areas as it defines a clear track for users to follow. Once the grasses and plants have grown through, the mesh is unobtrusive in this natural environment and it requires no regular maintenance.
The result is a safe track over the peat bogs and moorlands along with continuing protection of rare flowers, lichen and mosses. Everybody benefits from this ideal solution to an environmental issue.
